Old Owens v Shenley Village C C Friendly U11 on Fri 20 May 2005 at 18:00
Shenley Village C C Won 16 runs
Shenley u11 first league match was a good one ... the newly formed unit won the toss and elected to bat.... openers Hallett (c) and Thurston ran well between the wickets and put away leg side balls.... the partnership progressed steadily without loss before hallett was dismissed ...N patel then batted positively playing shots on both sides of the wicket ......but unfortunatley threw his wicket away sloggin'("not good"-Jemile).....with a minor collapse on the cards Holland solidified the innings and allowed shenley to reach 67-10 off 20 overs....
In reply Owens openers started well but good bowling from Hallett Holland and Gerrard(very fast bowler -- Nickname "Bullett"), gave Shenley opportunities to take wickets.....it may well end up being catch of the season --- Thurston's effort over his shoulder and away from him early in the innings was reminisent of D.Randall and J.Rhodes(2 of the greatest cricket fielders of all time)..Jack Cook's keeping was exceptional and a brilliant catch topped off a great day with the gloves for the novice keeper....T Woods also contributed at the end with a direct hit run out that was also very good ...Man of the Match -- William Holland (9 years old )
A good performance by the newly formed team with a number of senior players unavailable ....well done boys ..this was a good win against a good side .....Jemile
