First game of the campaign was eventful as we travelled to Welwyn Garden City. The team made up of youth and experience, with 6 colts under 16 taking to the field. Having lost the toss we were put into bat on a reasonable wicket. The opening pair of De Villiers and Munting put on partnership of 60 before De Villers on his club debut got an inside edge. Munting plugged away but runs were difficult to come by before he was bowled for 42. The colts battled away but found it hard to score significant runs. Seeley added 17 to the score and was the only other player to end with double figures. We were finally all out for 132 in 40 over’s.

We came out after tea with Putman opening the bowling from the bank end and proceeded to take a "Hat Trick" with the first three balls if the innings all clean bowled. He finished on 4 for 34 off 8 with a catch at mid wicket by Seeley. He was joined by the young U14 McLeod who settled in to his rhythm and took his first senior wicket. Patel and Gough chipped in with a few over’s but failed to make the brake through. De Villers and Seeley took over the bowling managing to get 2 more wickets, before the opposition reached the required run chase. Welton was the busiest of the fielders chasing down any lose ball.
