Outdoor Nets/Training

07 Apr 2017

The cricket season has arrived! The grass is cut, a turf pitch prepared and outdoor nets begin this Sunday, April 9th.

This season we will embark on a new approach to junior coaching. We will have use of a turf practise wicket every second week - this means match like scenarios/games will be played with an emphasis on cricket awareness/maturity/strategy. It will also give the coaches the chance to speak with managers about match like scenarios and provide other support and advice.

The regular age group split format will continue, albeit, having spoken with some parents and all our coaches, we have decided to change timings for the first 10 weeks of the summer - so:

U13's and up will train from 9am to 10:30am

U10 HARDBALL, along with U11's and U12's, (so this is school years 5, 6, and 7), will train from 10:30am to midday

U10 SOFT/INCREDIBALL, along with U9's and minis will train from midday to 1:00pm/1:30pm - variances to this session will be advised in advance and will be dependent upon senior cup games being played on certain Sunday's.

The split shifts facilitate a greater coach to player focus as well as greater practise volume and quality.

In combination with the facilities and equipment provided, as well as senior team volunteering (and parent volunteers!) - the junior member training experience at Shenley is one of the best in Hertfordshire.

As we progress, we may expand the split shift format to accommodate growing numbers and maintain training standards. This may mean altering the time/day of some age group sessions.

The Easter Camp run by Kris has been superbly supported and with the sun out today and the weather set fair for the weekend, am very much looking forward to the summer, and to the junior outdoor nets, which begin this Sunday!
