Cricket Re-start

04 Jul 2020

Morning all,

Given the emails and texts since around 6pm last night, thought I would update everyone on what is happening. Whilst totally getting the excitement amongst many, a LOT of hoops still need to be gone through before play actually starts. Please remember that only yesterday morning, the PM said cricket was still unsafe to play during an interview on LBC!

Firstly, the Government have said they will issue guidelines to the ECB by Monday or Tuesday. The ECB in turn need to turn this around and publish same to the amateur leagues, who in turn will advise the Clubs. Only then will we have a final date and the adapted rules by which we can play matches.

The senior league committee is meeting tomorrow afternoon at 5pm and the junior league on Wednesday at 7pm, (the latter timed around the ECB's hoped for release). Based upon the emails that did the senior committee rounds last night, we are likely to propose friendlies be played next Saturday, (July 11th), with a 9-game League starting July 18th.

Additionally, an SVCC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday but that had been planned around our discussing next steps financially for the club - though this agenda may change a little now!

As said at the outset though, we cannot do or arrange anything until the Government issue their guidelines, the ECB issue theirs and both senior and junior leagues have met. I will update everyone again after tomorrow's meeting and once we have heard from the ECB.

Best wishes, George.
