Shenley Village Cricket Club News story

Oli Mills Foundation

08 Apr 2021

Evening folks,

I'd like you all to meet brand new SVCC member, 14 year-old Jacob Hamilton, who only took cricket up last summer as a means of exercise during lockdown one. Jacob actually reached out to me directly, his parents only becoming aware when I reached out them for details to enable me add him to the Club database!

Jacob attends Verulam School where a very young Oli Mills very sadly died of cancer in 2005. Oli too was a Verulam student, whcih has led to school to regularly hold events that raise money for the Oli Mills Foundation, (https://www.theolimillsfoundation.co.uk/), which exclusively raises funds for the teenage Cancer trust.

Last year Jacob raised over £500 on his own for the charity as part of a school challenge.

This year "#captaintom100" has launched a challenge to raise funds doing anything linked to100. Jacob's Mum reached out earlier today to book our nets between 10am and midday on Saturday, May 1st so Jacob can bowl 100 balls in under 100 minutes to a friend of his so that they can raise at least £100 for the teenage Cancer trust.

The 2's and 3's are at home that Saturday and it would be great if you, and anyone else who may be around at the Club, could go over to the nets and give this incredible young lad your support - even if only to say hello! If you feel so inclined, you can help the Jacob and the turst by donating even a small amount to through the https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jacobs-captain-tom-100-challenge just giving website. Cancer is an awful disease, and one that is far worse when it claims a young life.

Thanking you all in advance,

Kind Regards,

George White

Joint Chairman (Cricket)
