Hope you are all wintering well and looking forward to the upcoming holiday period!
The 2016 winter nets will run from Saturday January 9th through to Saturday March 19th at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, de Havilland Campus, Hatfield Business Park, Mosquito Way, Hatfield, AL10 9EU and are almost upon us.
This 11-week program is arguably the most important training period of the year. Whilst summer nets are the mainstay of club training/coaching, it is the winter nets that will make the biggest difference to the form of juniors come the start of a season which will see the boys playing both League, (from mid-April), and for the first time, a summer cup competition, (from mid-July).
Our Club professional, Kris Nissen has made a number of improvements to the winter program, including staggering the training/session times of juniors so as to make sure the boys will get considerably more NET TIME - as fewer players will be able to spread out over more nets. This means more time facing the bowling machine, more time batting against bowlers, more room for fielding/catching/games, a safer volume of bowling and a higher quality of bowling (no more tired wayward bowling for the last few batting pairs).
This reduction in training time from two to one and a half hours is not only essential for achieving the aforementioned improvements, but will help to deliver a greater standard and quality of training session. The "1.5 hour session x greater number of nets" approach, whilst 30 mins less in duration, provides a greater volume of cricket than the "2 hour x fewer nets" approach.
Sessions for U12 and up will run from 2pm to 3:30pm each Saturday afternoon, with U9’s through U11’s from 3:30pm to 5pm. Our mini’s, i.e. U8’s and younger will also have their own separate session from 4pm to 5pm. Please speak to me if you have siblings that will be in both groups so that we can try to accommodate you.
As with last year, joining Kris will be joined by County and Area coach, Dave Carlisle, (your child’s chance to be observed over a longer period of time by the county’s main selector outside of the "trials" pressure-cooker), Graham Seymour, now and accredited ECB Level II coach, yours truly who will feed the bowling machine and video sessions if required and the odd guest!
The cost for all 11 sessions is £125, (£85 for minis), if paid in full by December 31st, or payable in two parts at £65 each, (£45 for minis), the first on or before January 9th, with the second payment due no later than Saturday, February 13th. Alternatively, if you wish to pay for individual sessions, these will be £18 each, (£12 for minis).
However, if you introduce a new member to these nets who pays in full no later than January 16th, then you will receive a £25, (£15 for minis), discount if you have paid in full by December 31st or a £15, (£10 for minis), discount if you too have paid in full by January 16th. To help you with any recruitment you might be able to do, I will be circulating a flyer tomorrow evening which we would ask you to forward to friends of yours or your child’s, whether through their school, football, rugby or other sporting club.
Please send these session fees electronically to George White,
Sort Code: 40-20-16, Account Number 71468995,
putting your child’s surname and initial in the reference field.
We will also be offering a discount on new members during the summer, but more on this following the Club AGM, Friday, January 29th.
It is an exciting time to be a Shenley Village Junior Member or Parent. 2016 promises to be the best year yet for members, and the winter nets will be an exceptional start to the season.
