Shenley's Nikhil Borkhatria wins spin scholarship

17 Dec 2015

Shenley Village's Nikhil Borkhatria, a regular in our 1st XI, has been chosen as one of two young cricketers announced winners of the 2015 Club Cricket Conference Spin Scholarship, in association with HKSZ.tv.

The competition is open to 18-21 year-old spin bowlers not associated with a First Class county.  This year's competition attracted 118 entrants from all over the country, from which a top 32 attended a final at Grace Road, Leicestershire CCC's ground, where Nikhil was selected, along with fellow winner Marwan Mohammad. Their prize is a week-long training camp at the Global Cricket School in Mumbai, India.

Nikhil, 20,  currently a student at Loughborough University, said of his success: "It’s a great opportunity. I’m just looking forward to the experience: a trip to India, learn from some great coaches. I’ve been playing since I was nine recreationally – I played with my dad a lot, and he played a good level – but I’ve never had any substantial coaching as a leggie, I’m pretty much self-learnt, so to be given this kind of opportunity is brilliant."
