Shenley Village Cricket Club News story

Junior Winter Nets

05 Jan 2017

Evening folks and Happy New Year to you all.

Quite a few of you have written to me over the last week or so requesting information on Winter Nets which start this Saturday, January 7th at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hatfield AL10 9EU. Apologies this has been a little slow in forthcoming, but this is primarily due to quite a few boys only having registered in the last couple of weeks, making it impossible to finalise on numbers for different age groups.

So, the plan, (for the first couple of weeks at least), is that net training for all U11 and upwards, (school year 6 through year 11), will run from 2pm to 3:30pm across the four lanes we have reserved at Hatfield. U10's and below, (so that is up to and including school year 5), will run from 3:30pm to 5pm.

I know this will effect two families and can only apologise for the inconvenience, but after taking everything into account, am taking this decision purely on the grounds of safety on the basis that U10 training and below is softball cricket, whilst U11 and up is hardball. You will be advised on Saturday afternoon if there are any changes to this plan going forward.

There are still some places available and I would strongly encourage as many as possible to join in as the more preparation we put in now, the better your son(s) will be come the league campaign which begins the first week in May. We will also be arranging a number of friendlies the last two weeks in April.

A note for the older boys, that is the U13's and up - senior net training also takes place at Hatfield on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 9pm. As the new 4th XI captain, I will be at most of these sessions, as will Gerald De Villiers, the new 5th XI captain. U13's are eligible to play senior cricket this summer and part of the reason I am taking over as 4th XI captain is to ensure a pathway for those of our youngsters who are good enough.

Finally, I plan holding a Q&A session from 3:15pm at Hatfield on Saturday, January 28th, to set out plans for this summer and to explain changes coming in from the Herts Junior Leagues, (of which I am a committee member), for 2017 and answer any and all questions parents, or indeed juniors, have. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Looking forward to getting started all over again and to adding to the silverware the Club won in 2016.

Best wishes,

George
