Shenley Village Cricket Club News story

May Update - and some GREAT news!

30 May 2022

Evening all,

And so we come to the end of May and the first four weeks of the senior league season. The first XI are doing OK, having won 2 and lost 2, the 2nd XI have won 1, lost 3, the 3rd XI have lost 4 and the 4th XI have won 1 and lost 2, with one game having been conceded to us. Availability has been sketchy as a result of injuries, school exams and a number of players at university. We can turn this around as it is important the Club pushes forward and shows Matt Kuhnemann, who arrives towards the end of June, we are a Club he will want to come back to!

The Junior section is going from strength to strength, and in this respect, I would like to thank Kris Nissen for all the work he is doing, not just with recruitment, but also with team managers. They too are doing an amazing job getting all our youngsters out playing the game we all love. These juniors are the future of our Club, so again, thank you to the managers and to everyone involved, let’s try to get out there and support them.

Am not sure all the HJL tables are up to date, but our U9’s have won 1, lost 1; U10A are 2 and 2; U11 are 1 and 3; U12A are 4 and 3, (top of their group); U12B are 1 and 2;  U13A are 2 and 0; U13B are 1 and 2, U14B are 1 and 1; and the U15A are 1 and 0 – as said, I think there are a few results missing.

We have just ordered a streaming service for the main ground, whereby all members will be able to watch the 1st and 2nd XI’s play their Saturday league games on the main ground live. A couple of private donations has made this possible, for which the Club is extremely grateful. Once we are up and running, a further message will go out with a link on how to watch these games. However, to actually get us up and running, the Club is looking for the donation of a laptop with the following specifications, (the laptop we have for scoring is not powerful enough):

  • Preferably less than 3 years old
  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 Home, or Professional
  • Intel i7 CPU min, 8th Generation or newer with 8GB RAM or more
  • Minimum 256GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive or SSD Drive (for storing ball video clips and highlights packages)-though an external drive could be used.
  • Dedicated NVIDIA Graphics card (e.g. RTX 3050) is preferred for smooth video encoding.

The next piece of news is something Shenley Village Cricket Club has been waiting for, for a long time – WE FINALLY GET TO RUN OUR OWN BAR FROM NEXT SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH!!!

Massive thanks goes to Geoff Evans for his perseverance with this. We will however be starting slowly, or at least until we get the hang of it all!! We will NOT have draft beers to start with, but will be selling bottles of beer at a LOT LESS than the Centre has been charging us to date! We will also have wine, prosecco and some spirits, our building up the latter over time. Snacks will also be available. The intention is that the bar will be cashless, (that is debit and credit cards only), but this may take us a week or two to sort out. Leslie Orchard and Melissa White are going to take the lead on this and no doubt will be reaching out to members, their wives and girlfriends for their help. If you can help with some of your time, say between 3pm and 7pm on Saturdays, (committee members will man the bar in the evenings), please email me by return, your details being passed onto Leslie/Melissa.

Remember too, the bar is available during the week during junior games, but I am hearing it has not been that well supported, so we may have to stop this service.

As we are now at the end of May, could I please ask those who have not paid either Senior or Junior annual membership to either pay in full this week, or to set up a standing order as soon as possible. There will be one more reminder mid-June on this, at which point those who have not paid may well not be selected to play for the Club. It is a Senior and Junior League requirement that only bona-fide paid up members can play for a Club – so please, do your bit and help us ease the financial pressure in which we find ourselves. The Clubs account details are as follows:

Account Name: Shenley Village Cricket Club (please note use the full name)

Account Number: 60390763

Sort Code: 20-47-34

Reference: “Subs” and your “Surname” – please also use your initial if paying for two members of the same family.

Membership fees are:

Adults, (aged 15 or older as at January 1st, 2022, excluding students in full time education) - £250.00, (which includes a Give & Win  number).

Students in full time education - £95

Colts, (Under 8 through U14) - £190

Social Membership - £40

Finally, if anyone has any issues or questions, or indeed is interested in helping with Club administration, please feel free to reach out to me by return email or on 07968 349933. I am overseas this week, but will respond to emails.

Hope you all have a great cricketing June.

Kind regards,

George White
