Shenley Village Cricket Club News story

Please help prepare the Ground for the coming season

21 Mar 2024

Dear Friends of Shenley village cricket club..................

Every year we know when the daffodils flower and the blossoms appear on the trees, that the cricket season is not far away.
Although we are told it has been the wettest winter on record, and the outfields are soaked, the grounds and wickets are looking very good for the time of year.
But now we need the club's supporters to become volunteers with the various jobs needing to be done to prepare for the season.
The ECB have promoted a programme they called get set weekend, but they have offered no actual help with finance or  manpower or even tea bags !
We have registered SVCC, but not for a specific weekend as yet.  We have a wish list, the ideal if we get enough manpower, but please get back to me to make it known which days you can come along to help. This survey will determine what we are able to achieve from the below wish list, but we want to see all the  benches around the ground painted white.  It would increase the grounds attractiveness, and make spectators welcome, so please adopt a bench. There are 15 of them and feel free to make your pledge, and pick your own day to take on painting a bench, which can be done any time at your convenience up to the end of April.

Please let me know ray@motilalbooks.com WHICH WEEKEND?
13/14th April      or              20/21st April       We will nominate the chosen weekend in the coming days, so please rsvp asap ! If the combined weekends get more volunteers then we will go for both. But if it is the same person x 2, better to have one action weekend.

Bring your own tea cup,  Hot or cold drinks will be available-depending on mid spring weather !?
And volunteer to claim and paint a bench !

We have listed The following projects;
Rolling nets
Repairing nets,
mobile cage set up +repairs
setting up sight screens
Placing covers on the roll on's nets
Preparing covers for both grounds

and if we get more than 8-10 volunteers on the day;

Sanding and painting seating around the ground
Cutting back bushes around boundaries
Painting 4 Changing rooms (1 per team ?)

Donations of paint and brushes, white or off white, very welcome !

Yes, very ambitious, but by asking all players and parents we may get 15-20.
