Dear Shenley Village Cricket Club Members.

 

With spring about to start we need to start preparing our ground for the 2026 season. Chris and I have checked the calendar and what needs to be done and have selected the Saturday 28th March as our Club working party da, with a 10am start.  It is only when we get to the week before will we have a better idea of the weather and temperature that day, but as long as it is not raining heavily it will go ahead.  Please make a note on your calendars now.

We have ear marked a second day in case of a no show or not finishing and that will be Sat 11th April.

With outdoor nets starting at the beginning of April, which is Easter weekend it is up to the players to be sure to roll the net surface several times, preferably when wet, in order to be sure you have a reliable and safe surface to bat on.

The area immediatly outside the boundary fences will be trimmed in the first week of May by a tractor with a heavy duty attachment for the purpose.  Last years trim worked very well on the main ground, but this year we want to also give the nursery grounda serious trim as well.

The jobs lined up to be done on the 28th are;

 

*  Removing 8 logs from just over the fence to much further away. 2 strong persons per log.

*  Cutting the Blackberry vines entwined in the wire fences, and treating the bare stems to prevent any regrowth.

*  Painting the posts white, either side of the gaps in the fence, to promote that is where the players should go to retrieve balls. NOT CLIMB OVER THE FENCES AND DAMAGE THEM.

*  Adding the sight screen slats to all 6 screens.

*  Putting the covers onto the roll on covers.

*  Extracting two Rain cover sheets (60ft x 10ft) for use on the nursery ground and placing them on pallets for use in matches. This needs to be done by 3rd,  4th and Sunday team players who will be shown how to use them and to fold them back onto the pallets after use, DURING THE GAME.

*   Attaching new hoses onto the roll on covers

*   Freeing the roll-on cage from the winter grass, repairing any holes.  

*   Filling in any rabbit scratchings on the outfields of both grounds, and apply grass seed, then pray for rain that night !
